Jackets come up short in 2nd and 3rd sets, swept by Indiana Tech
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets battled through a pair of close sets but were swept by the Indiana Tech Warriors (14-25, 22-25, 22-25) on Friday at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
The Yellow Jackets (13-11, 6-6 WHAC) shook off a lopsided first set and gave their opponents everything they could handle before the Warriors (15-9, 8-4 WHAC) closed out the next two to sweep the action.
DC kept the Warriors within their the entire second set, allowing no lead more than three points. Defiance worked back to a 17-16 lead that forced a timeout and later led 20-17 before Indiana Tech charged back. During the third set, the two sides see-sawed back-and-forth late in the set. Indiana Tech led 22-16 before Defiance closed the gap to just one point, but two kills closed out the action for the Warriors win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Defiance combined for 25 kills and hit just .053 as a team. Chaney Brodbeck led the way with eight kills on the night and had a team-high 31 attacks.
- Gabby Rodriguez and Sarah Hirschy each racked up four kills each.
- The Yellow Jackets defended the net well in the second set, racking up six blocks in that set alone. For the match, Jaelyn Tomoletz had seven total blocks featuring two solo stuffs.
- DC was below-0 in attacking during the first set, committing nine attack errors compared to seven kills. Indiana Tech had just one error in the first set to lead to the lopsided opening set.
- The Jackets out-hit Indiana Tech in set two with just four errors.
