FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Defiance volleyball snatched up two more victories on Saturday with straight-set wins over West Virginia Tech (26-24, 25-21, 25-14) and Milligan (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) to finish the Liz Lykowski Invitational with a perfect 4-0 record.
With the wins, the Yellow Jackets ran their winning streak to five straight matches as they finish non-conference play.
In the first match of the day against WVU Tech, the opening two sets were competitive before the Jackets cruised to a straight-set victory. DC trailed 10-6 in the opening set but were the first to 20 before outlasting the Golden Bears 26-24. The Purple and Gold overcame another early deficit during Set 2 by winning 12 of 15 volleys, going from trailing 13-9 to a 20-17 advantage. The third set was all Defiance by jumping out to a 12-2 lead and riding that momentum to the sweep.
DC swept Milligan decisively to finish the tournament. The Jackets didn't trail in the match through the first two sets and quickly rebounded after falling behind 4-2 in the third. Defiance hit the ball well, making just 16 errors on 102 total attacks and handled all but two receptions in the service game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The five-game winning streak is the longest under head coach Jeremy Thornburg.
- Shelby Clements led the Jackets with 12 kills against WVU Tech and converted 21 total for the day.
- Gabby Rodriguez swatted a team-high 10 kills in the win over Milligan with seven more again WVU Tech.
- Haley Hammer and Amina Chamoun dished out double-figure assists in each match, totalling 41 and 25 for the day, respectively.
- Taylor Craft also had seven blocks on the defensive side in the first match against WVU Tech.

The Yellow Jackets travel back to Fort Wayne on Wednesday for a conference match against the Indiana Tech Warriors. First serve at the Schaefer Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
