DC swept by Goshen on Friday
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College men's volleyball was swept by the Goshen Maple Leafs (28-26, 25-15, 25-14) in the Yellow Jackets' return from a long road swing and first-ever home conference game in program history.
The Yellow Jackets (2-6, 1-4 WHAC) played a valiant first set, trailing early by as many as 4 points before rallying to grab a 14-13 lead. Defiance also held set point at 24-23, 25-24, and 26-25 after 3 different kills by Philippe Meny, but the young Yellow Jackets were unable to close out the set.
The Maple Leafs (6-10, 1-4 WHAC) earned their first conference win of the year with dominant second and third sets. DC led 6-3 in the middle set but the visiting Maple Leafs flipped their fortunes by winning 13 of 15 rallies with the help of 9 DC errors. Goshen steadily pulled away to finish the sweep in the third with a 6-point streak in the middle of the set.
Meny led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills, his second match in double figures this year. Matthew Schulte added 9 kills. Adam Sutton helped on 22 kills and had 9 digs. Libero Oniel Alvarez posted a team-best 11 digs. As a team, the Yellow Jackets hit .029 with 32 kills canceled out by 29 errors while also posted 20 total errors in the service game.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. by hosting 10th-ranked Bethel at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
