DC back in the win column with sweep at UNOH
LIMA, Ohio – The Defiance Yellow Jackets shook off a five-game losing streak with a three-game sweep (25-16, 25-23, 26-24) over the UNOH Racers at The Garage during Wednesday night WHAC volleyball action.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets (13-10, 6-5 WHAC) finished the season series against the Racers (5-15, 2-9 WHAC) by winning all six sets between the two squads. Defiance's last win against UNOH this season was the beginning of the program's nine-game winning streak.
Defiance set the tone with a lopsided opening set that included a stretch of winning 7 of 8 points. They had another run of 7 of 8 points in the second set to climb out of a 12-7 hole to take the lead in Set 2. The two sides traded points in the middle set until the Jackets won the last three points to put the Racers' backs against the wall. In Set 3, DC overcame another good start by UNOH but overcame a 10-2 deficit despite trailing the entire set until leading 24-23. With the third set tied 24-24, the Jackets clinched the win on two straight attack errors by UNOH.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Yellow Jackets spread 38 kills around to six different players.
- Chaney Brodbeck and Taylor Craft led the way through the first set with three kills each while DC committed just one attacking error to start the match.
- Gabby Rodriguez finished with a team-high nine kills and they came when it counted. She had zero kills in the first set but came back with five kills in the second and four more in the third to give Defiance some critical scores.
- Sarah Hirschy played in all three sets and the freshman collected a season-best six kills.
- Defiance had 7 blocks for the match, led by Jaelyn Tomoletz with one solo block and six assists. Rodriguez also had four block assists in the match.
- Amina Chamoun was the team's leading passer with 20 assists, followed by Haley Hammer with 13.

The Yellow Jackets compete again on Friday with a home match against the Indiana Tech Warriors. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
