ERIE, Pa. - The Defiance College volleyball team had plenty to celebrate on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets grabbed two more victories with 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21) and 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22) defeats of Bethany and Fredonia respectively.
Head Coach Brie Brenner collected her 100th and 101st career victories with the wins at the Penn St.-Behrend Tournament.
The day's first matchup with Bethany saw four close sets seal Brenner's milestone victory. After taking the first set 25-21, the Yellow Jackets dropped the second after Bethany stole three straight points at the end.
DC responded with a 25-18 third set win before battling to a tight 25-21 win in the fourth and crucial set.
In similar fashion, Defiance's final match of the busy weekend needed four sets for the Yellow Jackets to head home with a 3-1 tournament record. After grabbing the first two sets, Fredonia took a tight 25-23 win in set three before DC retaliated with a 25-22 win of their own to leave Erie with an undefeated Saturday.
Delaney Monnin (Defiance / Tinora) continued her impressive weekend by being named to the All-Tournament team. The sophomore recorded 25 kills on Saturday, giving her a 58 kill total over the course of the weekend.
The now 6-3 Yellow Jackets will return to action Tuesday, September 10, as they begin the home season with a nonconference battle with Adrian College. Action is slated to begin at 6:30 pm.
