Yellow Jacket Volleyball Opens 2010 With Pair of Losses

ADA, Ohio – The Defiance College volleyball team suffered a pair of setbacks in Friday's season-opening action at the Ohio Northern Tournament. The Jackets fell in three to No. 23 Heidelberg, before losing in four sets to Wooster.
DC started the 2010 campaign against the nationally ranked Heidelberg squad and could not keep pace, falling 25-20, 25-15, 25-15. Heather Bradshaw led the way with 18 digs, while Sara Porter added 16 digs and four kills.
The Jackets then fell 25-19, 25-17, 20-25, 27-25 to North Coast Athletic Conference power, Wooster, in the second match of the afternoon. Porter and Bradshaw excelled on defense once again, as each tallied 22 digs in the loss. Kelsey Ferguson tossed up 23 assists, Marlea Rolander put down nine kills and freshman Kali George chipped in six kills, five digs and three blocks.
The schedule will not get any easier on Saturday, as Defiance is set to play No. 10 Ohio Northern at 10:00 am, before taking on the defending President's Athletic Conference champion Thomas More Saints at noon.
