DEFIANCE, Ohio - On a chilly, breezy afternoon at Winsper Knobel Memorial Field, the Defiance Yellow Jackets suffered a 4-1 loss to the Cleary Cougars.
Despite the loss, the Yellow Jackets (3-13-1, 0-10 WHAC) avoided the shutout when Tatum Oberhauser scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute. The score was Oberhauser's ninth goal of the season to tie for the freshman to move into a fourth-place tie for the most in a season in program history.
The Cougars (6-7-4, 2-4-4 WHAC) posted the first goal of the game just four minutes in but the Jackets held that 1-0 deficit for the remainder of the half. Defiance keeper Hanah Redick knocked down five shots in the first half and 12 for the game. Cleary started the second half with another quick strike off a set play and tacked on two more to lead 4-0. Their third goal was during a period of heavy pressure that finally broke through as Ashley Stover kicked in the ricochet of a shot off Redick's mitts. Morgan Vanos netted her second goal of the game when she curled in a corner kick.
For the game, Cleary logged 28 shots to DC's 3.
