ADRIAN, Mich. – The first match of the WHAC schedule for the Defiance Yellow Jackets included a 10-goal barrage by the Siena Heights Saints before DC scored late to avoid the shutout at O'Laughlin Stadium on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (3-4-1, 0-1-0 WHAC) were defeated for the first time in three matches while the Saints (3-3-2, 1-0-0 WHAC) scored a win after back-to-back draws.
Siena Heights pumped in eight goals during the first half, starting with two in the first 10 minutes of the match. During a 10-minute span in the middle of the first, the Saints scored five more times to extend their advantage.
During the 83rd minute, the Jackets notched their lone score of the day when Tatum Oberhauser split the pipes on her lone shot attempt of the day.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Siena Heights outshot Defiance 32-2 for the day. Aside from Oberhauser's lone shot and score, the Jackets got off one shot from Audree Johnson.
- The Saints' 10 goals came from eight different players. Gianna Whitney and Jenna Moeller each scored two goals. Moeller also had two assists for five total points.
- The decision was the most lopsided loss of the year for Defiance, surpassing a 6-0 loss to Saint Francis to start the year.
- Tatum Oberhauser's score was her team-high eighth goal of the season, the most by a player in a season at DC since 2006.
