Oberhauser goal and strong defense earn Defiance the win over GLCC
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College women's soccer team clashed with the Great Lakes Christian Crusaders on Saturday afternoon, earning a 1-0 victory on its home field. This win marks the first since Sept. 2, 2023 and is a huge step towards the program's, and head coach Isabelle Danner's, rebuilding initiatives.
Freshman forward Tatum Oberhauser came out with a vengeance – after intensely battling with the Crusader defenders, she found the back of the net in the 14th minute to score the first of her college career, and Defiance's inaugural goal of the season. Moments later, she attempted her second, but was tripped up just ahead of her shot. The Yellow Jacket defenders, led by freshman Hannah Redick in goal, held GLCC off through their six shots in the first period.
Oberhauser and company stood on the frontlines and served up a six-shot match. She accounted for five of them, including an open-look penalty kick in the second period due to a yellow card given to a Crusader. Oberhauser found holes in the defense all afternoon and the Purple and Gold, together, were able to maintain defensive pressure and secure the first win of the season.
However, the game became chippy in the final moments. Defiance's Reagan Camp, Haley Hughes and Audree Johnson were given red cards and ejected from the match, as well as GLCC's Amy Benitez.
