Isabelle Danner tabbed head coach of DC women’s soccer program
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College Athletic Department announced on Wednesday the hiring of Isabelle Danner as the 10th head coach for the women's soccer program ahead of the 2023 season.
Danner joins the Yellow Jackets after spending the entirety of her academic career and first five years of coaching at Trinity International University. She is the third coach from TIU to join the Defiance staff after the athletic programs at Trinity were discontinued at the close of 2022-23 school year.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to be the next head women's soccer coach at Defiance College. Throughout the interview process I got a glimpse of the support, community and drive for excellence Defiance athletics and the college has to offer," says Danner. "I want to thank Tiffani Selhorst and the rest of the staff who gave me a clear picture of what it would look like to be a part of the athletic department. I am ready and excited for the student-athletes to arrive on campus and start the season!"
A native of Metamora, Ill., Isabelle played four years of collegiate soccer for the Trinity Trojans and was an all-conference and all-regional player while serving as a two-time captain and earning several academic awards off the pitch. In 2016, she scored 13 goals in 19 games and was named NCCAA National Player of the Week with the first of two four-goal games for TIU that season.
After earning her bachelor's degree in elementary education, Danner joined the coaching staff at Trinity International as a graduate assistant in 2019. She was elevated to an assistant coaching position after finishing her graduate work in December 2021 and served in that capacity for two seasons. Danner also held the interim head coaching position shortly after becoming an assistant. She also aided the TIU athletic department's compliance and travel as the Athletics Coordinator during her final full year at the institution.
"Isabelle will be a great addition to our coaching staff. I think she has the qualities that will meet our women's soccer team right where they are at and she knows the importance of changing the culture to be her own," says DC Athletic Director Tiffani Selhorst.
Defiance College women's soccer opens the season with their Purple & Gold Tournament by hosting Eureka, Mount Mary and UM-Dearborn on September 1-2.
