Women’s Soccer Ends in a Tie After Double Overtime

Defiance, Ohio- The Defiance College women's soccer team wrapped up the 2019 Purple and Gold Classic with a 1-1 tie in double overtime to Indiana Tech on Sunday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets came out strong defensively in the first half only allowing seven shots on goal. Senior, Madi Bowman (Eaton, Ohio/ Eaton) played all 110 minutes in the net for the Yellow Jackets, recording sixteen saves.

The offense picked up in the second half as freshman Ally Enneking (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Roger Bacon) took a shot on goal that hit off the post. The chance was followed up with a finish from senior Blake Newman (Jackson, Mich./ Lumen Christi) for the first goal of the game in the sixty-sixth minute of play.

The Warriors responded late in the second half with a goal by Baili Bowers, evening out the score.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period of overtime leaving the sides deadlocked at one. During the second period of overtime, the Purple and Gold recorded four shots on goal.

After two periods of overtime the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The Yellow Jackets hit the road for their next contest on Wednesday, September 4 as they travel to Andrews University to take on the Cardinals. Kickoff is at 5:00 pm.
