DC women’s golf opens spring season at Island Pointe
KODAK, Tenn. – The Defiance College women's golf team started the second half of its season by hosting the Island Pointe Intercollegiate at Island Pointe Golf Club on Thursday and Friday.
Hosting 8 teams and 42 total women's golfers, the Yellow Jackets posted a 7th-place finish and Madison Gray led the team with a 23rd-place finish. Gray started the tournament with the team's best score of the weekend, posting an 87 with a pair of birdies. Scores were higher all across the leaderboard on Friday as Gray posted a 99 to finish at 186. Olivia Splete was just one stroke off of her season-best by shooting a 96 on Thursday, followed by a 99 on Friday, while each round featured one birdie. Magen Hines shot the team's lowest round on Friday with a 98 on her scorecard.
Olivet Nazarene captured the team title with a 36-hole total of 664, clearing second-place Huntington by 16 strokes. The Tigers had three golfers in the top 4 and saw their entire team finish in the top 10, led by Taylor Ice at 161 for the tournament. Huntington's Magnolia Miller had the best round each day with a 75 and 79 to claim medalist honors with a 154.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Saturday and Sunday at the Alice Lloyd Spring Invitational at Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond, Ky. Play is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. both days.
