Women’s Golf finished WHAC Fall Preview with strong final round
AUGUSTA, Mich. – The final round of this week's WHAC Women's Golf Fall Preview propelled the Defiance Yellow Jackets to conclude an 11th-place showing at Stonehedge North Country Club on Tuesday.
Completing the final round of the 54-hole event with a combined team score of 353 strokes, the Yellow Jackets shot their lowest team round of the season. That team total also beat out the program's lowest team round at a conference event while 1161 strokes for the event was the third-lowest tally at a 54-hole tournament for the women's golf program.
DC's third round was fueled by sub-90 rounds from Madison Gray (83), Magen Hines (86) and Paige Yazzie (86), rounded out by Olivia Splete's 98. As a unit, the Yellow Jackets had three birdies on Tuesday and played 27 holes at or below par. Yazzie's 86 was a new personal-best round as a Yellow Jacket.
Gray, the team's leader in average, was unable to play 36 holes on Monday and forced DC to take the scores of all four golfers for the first two rounds.
Lawrence Tech won the team title at this year's WHAC Fall Preview, beating UNOH by 58 strokes. LTU's Alix Schickele earned medalist honors with three identical rounds of 74 to total 222, winning by five strokes.
