Defiance wraps Hanover Invitational two-day tournament

HANOVER, Ind. - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets women's golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the fall semester Sunday at the Hanover Invitational with a ninth place finish.

Sarah Westfall led the way for the Yellow Jackets in the tournament, finishing in a tie for 44th place. The senior opened up her tournament with a 96, but improved five strokes on day two for a final score of 187. The 91 in round two was Westfall's career best in the Hanover Tournament, two strokes better than last season where she shot a 96-93-189 in the event.

Kayla Uscilowski tied her career best round in day one of the event, shooting a 99. The junior also shot a 99 in round two of the Hanover Invitational in 2012, her personal best. Uscilowski finished this year's tournament with a 111 on Sunday to post a final score of 210.

Nicole Baseley had the biggest improvement for the Yellow Jackets in the tournament, as well as week to week, dating back to last week's season opening Anderson Invitational. The sophomore shot a 122-116 in Hanover, leading the team with six strokes gained from round one to round two. The combined 238 was also the biggest jump from last week, improving 24 strokes.

Mallory Galloway finished second for Defiance in Hanover, shooting a 202 in the event. The freshman opened up the weekend with a 97 in round one, but finished Sunday with a 105.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Tuesday in the annual Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament held in Wauseon, Ohio.
