Caparros posts 20 for DC women in loss to Cleary
DEFIANCE, Ohio – In the penultimate game of the 2025-26 season, the Defiance Yellow Jackets were defeated at home by the Cleary Cougars 92-43 on Wednesday at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
The Yellow Jackets (3-24, 0-21) lost their 20th consecutive game while the Cougars (13-14, 11-10) captured the season sweep over DC with the win.
The Yellow Jackets opened up a 6-2 lead in the opening 2 minutes after back-to-back buckets by Lorena Caparros. However, the Cougars responded with a 12-0 run and led 16-11 through the first quarter. The Cougars dominated the second quarter to take control of the game, outscoring DC 32-5 in the period, making 11-of-20 attempts and held DC to 1-for-8 from the floor. Cleary seniors Izzy Dugal and Jess Andrew combined for 24 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the visitors.
Cleary dominated the boards and shot the ball well all evening. The Cougars finished shooting 52 percent and outrebounded the Yellow Jackets 49-30. Lorena Caparros starred for the Yellow Jackets, posting a season-high 20 points and her eighth game scoring double figures this season.

DC's women's basketball team plays its final game of the season at the Weaner Center on Saturday afternoon against Aquinas. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. with the Yellow Jackets honoring seniors Ali Mowen and Mone'a McElroy prior to Saturday's game.
