Mowen drops career-high 18 points in loss at Lourdes
SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Defiance Yellow Jackets lost a 72-55 contest to the Lourdes Gray Wolves in Wednesday's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Ebeid Recreation Center.
Despite the defeat, the Yellow Jackets' (3-18, 0-15 WHAC) senior guard Ali Mowen set a single-game career-high with 18 points that included 4 3-pointers. It was Mowen's second new career-best scoring night this season and second game with 4 treys. She now stands just 3 triples shy of 100 career 3-pointers.
Mowen posted the first basket of the game before Lourdes posted a 16-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Gray Wolves (17-4, 13-2) and Yellow Jackets scored in bunches in the second quarter with Lourdes posting 29 points. The home squads lead reached as high as 23 points early in the second half, but DC had their best offensive quarter with 19 points in the third period. Mowen hit two treys in the quarter complimented by 6 from Jourdyn Wynn and 5 by Kayla Houston, leading DC to shooting 50 percent during that 10-minute stretch. Defiance closed the game going 2-for-17 in the fourth quarter, which included a triple by Mowen.
Lourdes shot 46 percent for the game and also won the rebounding battle. From a turnover perspective, the Yellow Jackets were forced into 22 but were able to force 19 to close the game minus-3 for the night.
Wynn narrowly missed another double-double with 9 points and 10 rebounds for DC. Shaunie Little also did a bit of everything for the Jackets with 7 points, 6 assists, and 6 steals.
