Jackets can’t slow down Indiana Tech on Saturday
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance Yellow Jackets met 22nd-ranked Indiana Tech at the Karl H. Weaner Center on Saturday as the visiting Warriors rolled to an 88-40 victory.
The Warriors (9-3, 6-1 WHAC) set the tone with a 9-0 run to start the game, eventually leading to a 23-9 lead over the Yellow Jackets (3-10, 0-7 WHAC) after the first quarter. The second quarter was more balanced with both teams struggling from the floor and shooting below 30 percent in the period. DC senior Ali Mowen sank her first of two 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 10 points with 6 minutes left in the half, but the Warriors closed the half with a 13-0 run to extend the lead back to 23.
Indiana Tech was tough to tame in the third quarter as they went 11-for-18 and outscored DC 33-14. The Warriors' Taylor Covington, the reigning WHAC Player of the Year, posted 13 of her 30 points in the quarter. While she spent the last 3 minutes of the quarter on the bench, the Yellow Jackets enjoyed a brief 6-0 rally on buckets by Taylor Haynes and Morgan Crowe. In the fourth, Indiana Tech's lead swelled to as many as 50 but DC held their guests to just one more basket over the final 3 minutes of the contest.

- Indiana Tech enjoyed a 45 percent shooting afternoon compared to 28 percent by Defiance.
- The Warriors also won the battle on the boards 45-36.
- Indiana Tech took care of the basketball to not allow DC to create transition opportunities to score. The Warriors' 5 turnovers were the fewest forced by the Jackets in a game this season.
- Taylor Haynes was the lone DC player in double figures with 12 points.
- Jourdyn Wynn pulled in 12 rebounds, matching her career-best total while scoring four points.
- Morgan Crowe scored 8 points with 5 rebounds.
- Ali Mowen sank a pair of 3-pointers for 6 points as the senior approaches 100 career triples.
UP NEXT
DC is off for the next two weeks before traveling to Michigan-Dearborn on Jan. 3 to continue WHAC play against the Wolverines. Tipoff at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be a doubleheader with the men's team.
