Racers roll past Yellow Jackets on Saturday
LIMA, Ohio - The Defiance Yellow Jackets dropped their fifth straight regular season game in a 95-47 loss to the UNOH Racers at The Garage on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (3-9, 0-6 WHAC) shot under 30 percent for the third straight game while the Racers (10-2, 4-2 WHAC) secured their fifth straight victory.
UNOH pulled away early with a 29-10 first quarter in which they forced 9 turnovers by Defiance. The Racers went 11-for-19 from the field to start the game and DC struggled to slow them down on their way to a 48 percent shooting day. After capitalizing on easy scoring opportunities and controlling the tempo early, the Racers built a 51-21 halftime lead behind stellar play by Alysia Lawson and Olivia Thompson. Lawson finished with 31 points and Thompson posted 19. Through the second half, the third and fourth quarters had identical 22-13 scores as the Racers pushed their lead to as large as 48 before the final horn.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Yellow Jackets' shooting and turnovers forced them to chase from the outset. Defiance hit just one 3-pointer and turned the ball over 23 times.
- The stat sheet at the free throw line was nearly even with Defiance taking one more attempt at the line, but the Racers went 18-for-20 for the afternoon.
- Defiance won the battle on the boards, 50-47. However, an efficient offense fueled the Racers along with 7 treys and 52 points in the paint.
- Shaunie Little posted 15 points to lead the Yellow Jackets, followed closely by Taylor Haynes with 13. Little leads the program with 7 games in double figures.
- Haynes nearly missed a double-double with her 9 rebounds.
- Morgan Crowe and Jourdyn Wynn each secured 11 rebounds to lead DC.
- Finishing at 21.9 percent from the floor as a team was Defiance's second-worst shooting effort of the season.
UP NEXT
The Yellow Jackets get back on the court next Saturday with a home date against the nationally-ranked Indiana Tech Warriors. Tipoff at the Karl H. Weaner Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. and is the last contest of December for DC.
