Yellow Jackets get D-1 exposure at Eastern Michigan
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Defiance College women's basketball had its first of two Division I exhibitions this weekend with a 96-44 loss to the Eastern Michigan Eagles on Friday at the Gervin GameAbove Center.
The Eagles won their third game in a row to improve to 4-4, but the contest did not blemish the Yellow Jackets and counted as an exhibition for the NAIA program. Eastern Michigan led wire-to-wire, opening up a 10-point lead halfway through the opening quarter and up to 18 by the end of the period. EMU outpaced DC 21-2 in the second quarter and closed the half on a 15-0 run.
The Yellow Jackets put together a strong second half, shooting 39 percent after halftime and had the tightest score of the night in the final quarter, 21-18. The Jackets had a pair of 6-0 runs in the second half. Taylor Haynes followed two Kayla Houston free throws with a pair of layups during the third. In the fourth, DC had back-to-back 3-pointers by Shaunie Little and Lorena Caparros. Defiance hit 4 total 3-pointers in the final stanza with two by Little and the final points of the game from outside the arc by San'Taizia Thomas.
