Caparros named National WBB Defensive Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Defiance College junior guard Lorena Caparros added another accolade for her impressive performance by garnering NAIA Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
A native of Cartagena, Spain, Caparros set a new school record with 14 steals on Friday night against Grace Christian College as the Yellow Jackets ran away with a 111-53 victory at the Karl H. Weaner Center. Breaking the previous school record of 12, she came one steal shy of the NAIA single-game record of 15. In three games last week, Caparros averaged 13.7 points, 7.3 steals, 2.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds per contest. She also set a new season-high in scoring in Friday's win with 15 and set a new bar in Saturday's victory with 17 more.
Caparros was named Defensive Player of the Week by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on Monday to give the program its first weekly conference award since joining the league last season.
This also becomes the first NAIA National Player of the Week Award for the Defiance College athletic department since transitioning to the NAIA at the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
