KEENER, La. - Defiance College Powerlifting sent two Yellow Jackets to USAPL Collegiate Nationals over the weekend, which included a thrilling podium finish for DC's Mikayla Twum.
Twum successfully boosted 7 of 9 total lifts in the 90kg Women's Raw class and set PRs across the board, including a new American deadlift record for her classification. She squatted 195 kg (429.9 lbs) and benched 75 kg (165.3) and was in winning position before the final deadlift discipline. After a clean lift of 215 kg, she boosted the 90kg American record of 227.5 kg to take over first place at the time. After Midland's Brylee Batiste cleared 220kg to retake the top spot, Twum went for a 237.5 lift to take the crown but was unable to reach full lockout position. Her grand total was a personal best 497.5 kg (1096.8 lbs) to take the silver and her fourth podium finish in USAPL meets this season.
Dominic Bingham qualified for the men's competition and also had a career day in the 82.5kg Men's Raw class. Going up against 80 other lifters, Bingham captured 17th place with a grand total of 680kg (1499.1 lb) with new PRs for every discipline.
