Jackets go 1-4 at WHAC Super Duals, Waxler goes 3-0 for DC
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Serving as the host for the WHAC Super Duals on Saturday, the Defiance Yellow Jackets turned in a 1-4 showing in their 5 dual matches at the George M. Smart Center.
The Yellow Jackets picked up their victory against Cleary by a 31-22 score despite three open forfeits. Defiance's grapplers went 6-1 in contested battles to earn their first win in WHAC dual competition. DC came up on win short of a second win against Siena Heights as that dual came down to the heavyweight battle tied 21-21, but it went to the Saints. The other three losses for Defiance were to the conference nationally-ranked squads: #4 Indiana Tech, #15 Marian and #RV Cornerstone.
Kale Waxler's record was unblemished in Saturday's action as he went 3-0. All of his victories came via decision, including a bout at 197 against Siena Heights.
Drew Matthews also collected three wins for the Yellow Jackets as he battled in all five duals. Matthews won by fall against Marian's Zach Wilson and two major decisions. His only two losses for the day were against nationally-ranked wrestlers.
Parker Cone went 2-0 while Daniel Thatcher and Peyton Brown each scored two wins apiece to end 2-2 for the competition. In addition to the multiple-match winners, Connor Sintobin and Matthew Wheeler earned their first college pins.
