Sutton, Silverman among WHAC's Men's Volleyball Players of the Week
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College men's volleyball garnered the program's first-ever Player of the Week Awards on Monday with Adam Sutton (Columbus, Ohio/New Albany) named Setter of the Week and Quinn Silverman (Grand Rapids, Mich./Caledonia) tabbed Defender of the Week.
Sutton, a freshman setter, led WHAC setters with 143 assists across three matches last week, averaging 11 per set. He set an individual season high in consecutive games to start their road trip last week, first with 43 assists at Franklin on Thursday followed by 62 assists in a five-set win over Midway on Friday. His 62 assists are the most by a Defiance volleyball player, men's or women's.
Silverman is a junior transfer from Aquinas and been a defensive force since facing his former program two weeks ago with 5 blocks and 3 kills in a win over the Saints on Feb. 28. Last week, Silverman blocked 14 total attacks in three matches with a pair of solo blocks. His 7 blocks at Franklin on Thursday match DC's most total blocks in a match this season. He also posted a season-high 8 kills during the team's five-set win at Midway.
The Yellow Jackets have 10 regular-season matches remaining and are 4-12 in their first season of competition. DC returns to the court with the first of four straight home matches on Tuesday night against Indiana Tech at 7 p.m. at the Karl H. Weaner Center.
