Bio
Kayla Muir joined the Defiance College cross country/track and field staff in July 2026 as an assistant coach.
Muir is a native of Ida, Mich. and holds both her bachelor's (2024) and master's degrees (2026) from Eastern Michigan. In addition to coaching, Muir is also a licensed clinician with an MSW and LLMSW.
Muir was a three-sport athlete at Ida High School in cross country, basketball, and track. She also volunteered as an assistant for the track and cross country programs to gain valuable coaching experience.
She started her undergraduate studies at Stautzenberger College before transferring to Eastern Michigan, where she earned a spot as a walk-on for the Eagles. Muir competed in cross country and track while posting a top-10 program time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. During her time in Ypsilanti, she was a team captain and also served the program as a team manager.
