Parrett (Cedarville, Ohio/H.S.) crossed the finish line in 1:56.09 to set a new 800-meter DC record at the home invitational Saturday. The sophomore won the event with a blazing run that was more than four seconds faster than second place. Parrett's time currently ranks as the fastest time in the HCAC and ninth fastest in all of NCAA Division III. He also anchored the DC 4x400-meter relay team that finished second at the meet.
The Cedarville High product came within half a second of breaking the record last season as a freshman. His DC Invite time ousted the old mark of 1:57.79 established in 2005 by John McColl.
Defiance finished third of eight teams at the meet behind only Case Western and Wittenberg. It was arguably the Purple and Gold men's track and field team's best performance on the indoor season with Parrett garnering conference track athlete of the week and fellow Yellow Jacket Tom Postema grabbing field athlete of the week.
The DC track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, February 2 when it takes the short drive down to Ada, Ohio for the Ohio Northern Invitational. Events will kick off at 11 a.m. in the King Horn Sports Center.
