Duo of Parrett and Postema Lead DC at ONU Invitational
ADA, Ohio – The Defiance men’s track and field team continued its indoor season Saturday, February 2 with the Ohio Northern Invitational. Notching first-place finishes for the Jackets at the meet were senior Tom Postema and sophomore Troy Parrett.

For Postema, this was his second meet in two days. On Friday, February 1, the Tinora High product went solo and competed at the Findlay Open against top national athletes in the weight throw event. These athletes included professional and top college throwers from around the country. The DC senior placed seventh overall with a toss of 20.06 meters.
At the ONU Invite, Postema took part in only the shot put event and managed to place first with a toss of 15.51 meters.
In the 500-meter run, sophomore Troy Parrett crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:09.37. The Cedarville, Ohio, native edged the second-place runner from John Carroll by just more than one second.
For the pole vault event, Hardin-Wallace cleared 4.55 meters, which tied for the top height in the competition. But after a jump off, the senior lost the tie-breaker and finished in second place.
Other top finishes at the meet were by senior Hayden Krick and junior Joe Davis. For Krick, the long distance runner clocked in a career-best time of 9:03.24, which was good for third place. Davis, competing in the 800-meter run, placed second with a mark of 1:58.00.
In team scores, the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern came in first place with 148.5 points. In second was John Carroll with 107.5, followed by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman at 101.5. Defiance finished in sixth-place with 57 points.
The Yellow Jacket track and field squad will return to Defiance for its third home meet of the indoor season on Friday, February 8. Action at the competition will kick off at 4 p.m.
