Purple and Gold Compete at the George in the DC Open
DEFIANCE, Ohio – In the third home meet of the 2013 indoor season, the men’s track and field team competed in the Defiance College Open on Friday, February 8. A total of seven schools competed in the meet a day before the All-Ohio Championships.

Heading the Yellow Jackets on the afternoon was a pair of pole vaulter's. Sophomores Ryan Johnston and Dylan Waggy were both able to make it safely over a height of 3.80 meters. But, by virtue of a jump off, Johnston finished in second, while Waggy took third place. The height was a new season-best height for Johnston.
For the running events, top finishers for the Purple and Gold were junior Adam Grillot and freshman Vinnie Perez. The junior posted a 1:29.27 in the 600-meter run that gave him a third-place finish. For the rookie runner from nearby Ayersville, Ohio, Perez sprinted the 200-meter dash in 23.80, which was a season best time.
In field event action, junior Luiyi Nunez had the best outing of the DC throwers. The North Brunswick, N.J., native placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.42 meters. Nunez also competed in the shot put and tossed a 12.73 mark that was good for ninth at the competition.
The Yellow Jacket track and field team will be competing at the All-Ohio Championships in Westerville, Ohio tomorrow February 9. The meet is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
