Davis, Parrett and Postema Score First-Place at Championships
DELAWARE, Ohio – The All-Ohio Championships brought out the best in many of the athletes on DC’s men’s track and field team on Saturday, April 13. Leading the way for the Purple and Gold were senior Tom Postema, junior Joe Davis and sophomore Troy Parrett.

Three-time 2013 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Tom Postema paved the way for Jackets at the championships with three top-five finishes. The senior thrower finished first in the hammer throw event with an All-Ohio record mark of 62.14 meters, second in the discus at 48.99 m and fifth in the shot put by registering a mark of 15.58 m.
Davis only competed in one event on the afternoon but made the most of it. The Ontario High product set the Defiance record in the 5,000-meter run with a first-place time of 15:07.38. Davis broke his own record that he set in 2012 by over 28 seconds.
Finally for DC's first-place finishers, Parrett turned on the burners in the 800 to notch a time of 1:53.87 that was two seconds faster than any other competitor. He barely missed beating the record he set last season, as he finished .60 behind the 2012 mark.
In the longest running event at the competition, senior Hayden Krick crossed the finish line of the 10,000-meter run in 32:10.66. The mark was good for third overall.
Other individual top-10 finishes at All-Ohio were from senior Dan Hardin-Wallace and juniors Anthony Nolfi and Madison Murphy. The mid-distance runner Murphy grabbed sixth in the 800-meter run, after clocking a time of 1:57.54. In the pole vault, Hardin Wallace was able to safely clear 4.43 meters to come in ninth place. Nolfi then also grabbed ninth by tossing a hammer throw mark of 45.73 m.
In team events, the Yellow Jackets 4x400-meter relay team of Ryan Johnston, George Roth, Murphy and Parrett was able to put together a run of 3:25.96 that gave the group a ninth-place finish.
The Ohio Athletic Conference ran away with the championships, as it grabbed the top three spots. Mount Union finished with the first-place crown by racking up a score of 98 points. Coming in second was Baldwin-Wallace with 75. John Carroll then scored 69 points for third place. The Purple and Gold came in with a respectable eighth-place finish at 51 points.
The Yellow Jackets track and field squad will return to action next Saturday, April 20 when they travel to Indiana for the Manchester Invitational. The competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
