Postema Places 12th in Shot Put at Indoor Nationals
GRINNELL, Iowa – Defiance College junior Tom Postema finished in 12th-place in the shot put during day two of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The finish matched his result in the weight throw during day one.

Postema used a toss of 51-01.00 to claim 12th in the nation in the shot put. He entered the event with the ninth best mark in the country with a throw of 54-05.54 earlier in the season. The product of Tinora High barely missed All-American honors in both of his events, but became the first DC athlete to compete at NCAA Nationals since 2010.
The junior thrower also took home 12th-place in the weigh throw after ending with final mark of 55-11.00. Postema currently holds the Defiance College and Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships records for the weight throw and shot put.
Postema, the HCAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, and the Yellow Jackets Track and Field teams will transition into the outdoor season with the conclusion of indoor nationals. The Jackets will begin the 2012 outdoor track and field season at home, when they host the annual Dick Small Invitational at Coressel Stadium on Saturday, March 24. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
