Horvath sets school record in 800 meters at Central State

Results

WILBERFORCE, Ohio - Defiance College's track and field programs put in a strong showing with nine total podiums at Central State's Joshua Culbreath Invitational. Highlighting the day was sophomore Mira Horvath when she set the women's outdoor record in the 800 meters with a 2:21.28 race, shattering the former record by nearly three seconds. The former 800-meter benchmark was by Kali George in 2013 in a time of 2:24.21. 

Horvath's race in the 800 is the 12th-fastest among WHAC competitors this spring. The Defiance native also set personal bests in the javelin and shot put to cap off an impressive day for the Yellow Jackets. Additional PRs on the women's side included Rakel Thompson's 12.49-second 100 meters, which was sevent-fastest in program history. Shelby Clements also set a PR in the 400 meters at 1:03.75. 

For the men's team, Zyon Woods tallied his first career win in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.62, which lands inside the program's top-10. Woods highlighted four podium finishes for the Yellow Jackets along with JVontae Barnes placing third in the 400 meters, Jake Stephens' second place in the 3000 meters and the 4x400-meter relay team's second-place finish. Marcus Snell also set a PR in the 100 meters along with Barnes' 400-meter run.

DC Track & Field travels to the Penn Relays next Thursday for their final tune-up ahead of the conference championships. Competition for the Yellow Jackets begins at 4 p.m. at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
