GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Defiance College men's soccer suffered an 8-1 loss at Cornerstone on Saturday as the team approaches the final week of the season.
The Golden Eagles (6-7-0, 4-5-0 WHAC) picked up a crucial win for their WHAC Tournament hopes while the Yellow Jackets (2-13-1, 1-8-0 WHAC) rest on the cusp of elimination pending the results of Cleary and Siena Heights on Sunday.
Cornerstone posted two quick goals in the first half during the 7th and 11th minutes. The Jackets' defense held strong and kept the score 2-0 through nearly the rest of the half until a third goal was scored in the 38th minute.
After the Golden Eagles score two quick goals within a minute of each other just seven minutes after the half, Defiance got on the board with the third goal of the year by Diego Suarez. Cornerstone responded with three more goals to finish the action, including two in the last minute of the night.
Cornerstone outshot DC 33-5 with 13-3 differential in shots on goal. Jacob Goldsberry and Rafael Gaino split time in goal for DC with Goldsberry getting the start and Gaino playing the second half.

The Yellow Jackets start the last week of the regular season on Wednesday with an evening match at Cleary. Kickoff at Lake Trust Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Cougars.
