DEFIANCE, Ohio – A chippy contest on the Winsper Knobel Field grass did not go the Defiance Yellow Jackets' way as they suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Aquinas Saints.
Aquinas earned their first conference win of the year while the Jackets are still on the hunt for their first home win of the year.
The Saints scored in the 13th minute, which held as the lone goal of the first half. Early in the second, Fikret Hasovic was awarded a penalty kick after a rough takedown inside the box and he punched the second score of the game through the pipes. Just three minutes later, he added a second goal to make it 3-0 in favor of Aquinas. The Saints also added a fourth goal in the 60th minute to complete the scoring.
The two teams combined for 14 fouls in the match, seven cards were issued, and there were multiple injury stoppages for two teams, starving for a conference win.
Defiance was able to get nine shots off as possession was shared throughout the contest. Jacob Goldsberry made seven saves in net for DC and Gabriel Lorenzetti made a team-best three shot attempts.
