LIVONIA, Mich. - The Defiance College Yellow Jackets were blanked 13-0 by the No. 23 Madonna Crusaders in their midweek matchup at MU Soccer and Lacrosse Field after being held to a sole shot on goal.
Madonna's (6-1-2, 3-0 WHAC) Ren Suzuki got the scoring started quickly with a goal in the fourth minute, against Defiance's goalkeeper Tristan Frazzini, to put his team up by one. Early in the seventh minute, Ryota Nakajima chimed in with a goal of his own, the Crusaders leading 2-0. By the end of the first half, DC (0-9-0, 0-3-0 WHAC) allowed seven goals — the most in a first period this season.
To begin the second 45-minute half, the Yellow Jackets switched things up and put in freshman goalkeeper Tyler Harper. Harper had 11 saves on 17 shot attempts, letting six past him to end the match. Madonna's stealth defensive front allowed for just one DC shot on goal by Gabriel Lorenzetti, which was blocked.
The Turning Point…
Once Suzuki kicked off the scoring, the Crusaders were off to the races. Between the 50th and 60th minute marks, five Madonna goals were put on the board.
