ALMA, MICH. - The Defiance College men's soccer team traveled to Alma College today to take on the Scots. The Yellow Jackets prevailed scoring in overtime, to defeat the home side 2-1.
Defiance found themselves evenly matched with the Scots, as both teams were unable to break through in the first half, leaving the sides scoreless going into the break. Harrison Hirth (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer), guarded the Yellow Jacket goal for the whole game recording four saves in the evenly matched contest.
Late in the second half, the Purple and Gold scored the first goal the day, as Jarren Casto (Celina, Ohio / Celina) connected with junior, Christian Rennie (Conroe, Tex. / Porter) to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
The home side quickly answered back with a goal, equalizing the score at 1-1 with under 10 minutes to play in regulation. Neither team was able to find the back of the net before the end of the second half, sending the teams into extra time.
The Yellow Jackets didn't waste much time, as freshman Armando Campos-Ortiz (Dayton, Ohio / Carroll) scored the winning goal just under a minute into overtime play. Campos-Ortiz scored his third goal of the season with an assist from Rennie to give the Yellow Jackets a thrilling 2-1 victory on the road.
The win improves the Yellow Jacket record to 2-4-1 on the season.
Defiance is next in action Saturday, September 21st as they play host to Geneva College at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field for kickoff at noon.
