WYOMING, MICH - A strong offensive performance saw the Defiance College men's soccer team add their second win to the 2018 season on Saturday afternoon. They side traveled to Grace Christian University and came home with a 4-2 victory.
A strong first half saw the Purple and Gold take a two goal advantage heading into the locker room. Senior Adam Ordel (Lima / Elida) scored his first two goals of the year in the 19th and 29th minutes to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. The second of the Lima native's goals came from an assist from junior Jarod Brossia (Curtice / Genoa).
The Yellow Jackets didn't wait long to extend their lead to three as senior Christian Meister (Ontario / Ontario) tallied his fourth goal of the season in the 54th minute. Grace was able to put some pressure on the visitors as they brought the score back to 3-2 with just over thirty minutes remaining in the match. In the 78th minute the Yellow Jackets solidified their victory with a fourth goal coming from sophomore Hunter Kauffman (St. Paris / Graham), his first of the season.
Defensively, Aden Gariety (Celina / Celina) played all 90 minutes in net for the Purple and Gold. 9 saves on the day for Gariety allowed the Yellow Jackets offense to pull away and ultimately earn the 4-2 victory.
The win takes the Yellow Jacket record to 2-6. The men's side will next be in action Tuesday, Septemeber 25th at Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on the Defiance College Campus as they take on Thiel. The match, slated for a 4:00 pm kickoff, will serve as a final tuneup before Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play begins with a trip to Franklin College on September 29th.
