Defiance Swept by the Quakers, 2-0

RICHMOND, IND. – The Defiance College men's soccer team traveled to Richmond, Ind. to face Earlham (Ind.) College in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup and were unable to find the net, falling 2-0.

Defiance (5-12-2, 3-4-1 HCAC) got the offense started quickly, with back-to-back shots from freshman defenders Nick Kleptz (Troy) and Michael O'Brien (Northville, Mich./Northville) within one minute from each other that were saved by the Earlham (4-10-2, 4-3-1 HCAC) goalkeeper.  

Earlham turned right around and put the pressure on the Yellow Jacket defense and was able to score at the 9:51 minute mark, taking the lead 1-0.

Freshman forward Anthony Ewing (Dayton/Northmont) and Kleptz both recorded shots before the end of the half, but were unable to connect. The deficit remained 1-0.

After intermission, Earlham pulled away at the 55:11 minute mark, when they scored off of a header shot, to extend the lead 2-0.

Despite solid efforts by senior midfielder Drew Metz (Northwood/Lake) and senior forward Ashten Forde (Euclid) who both had shots that sailed wide, the Yellow Jackets could not net any goals and the Quakers came up with the victory.

The Purple and Gold will end their regular-season play and will honor the seniors on Saturday, Nov. 1 when they host HCAC rival Hanover (Ind.) College. The contest is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
