Downs Scores First Career Goal, Jackets Fall to Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Defiance College men's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Franklin College on Saturday, October 4. The Jackets fall to 0-2 in the HCAC with the defeat.
The Grizzlies scored three times on only six shots in the opening period to take a commanding lead into the break. Franklin would add another goal just over four minutes into the final stanza, before DC made closed the gap with score of its own. Brian Downs scored his first goal of his collegiate career off a ball from Joseph Loftis to pull Defiance within three, 4-1, but the Grizzlies returned the lead to four goals with a score in the 74th minute.
DC managed just three shots in the match, but all three came on goal. Chris Chabowski and Chris Kessler were the other two Jackets to record shots in the match, while Downs' goal came on his second shot of the season. Keeper Mitch Livensparger finished the day with three saves for Defiance.
The Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, October 8, when they travel to Rochester College for a 4:00 p.m. match.
