Theissler finishes second in playoff, Jackets take 3rd as a team
RICHMOND, Ind. - Defiance College men's golf had a strong showing at the Forest Hills Fall Invite, hosted by Earlham College over the weekend. Sophomore Sam Theissler finished tied for first after a strong Sunday round of 71 but fell in a playoff for medalists to Anderson's Luke LeBourdias.
Theissler totaled a 148 for the tournament, which was his lowest 36-hole total of his career and a career-best finish tied for first. He added up four birdies on Saturday before shooting three more on Sunday, which included a bogie-free back-nine.
As a team, the Yellow Jackets A Team of Theissler, Dominic Giamei, Zack Palmer, Jordan Walford and Colten Schroeder shot 625 overall (312 on Saturday, 313 on Sunday). That squad finished in third place, just four shots off the lead held by Spalding and Walsh with 621 each.
DC's B Team also had a strong tournament, shooting 641 overall (324 on Saturday, 317 on Sunday) for a sixth-place finish in the 13-team field. Dylan Thomas scored a top-10 finish to lead that unit by setting a new personal best with a 77 on Saturday. His 79 on Sunday totaled a 156 for the event.
