Gehring takes over as head coach of men’s golf program
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College men's golf has turned to 2012 DC alum and former assistant coach Matt Gehring to lead the program as the team's new head coach, the DC Athletic Department announced on Wednesday.
Gehring joined the athletics staff in August 2023 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, Facilities, and Internships. The Fostoria native will add recruiting and mentoring the DC men's golf team to his oversight of all compliance and eligibility requirements, assisting in coordinating campus athletic venues, and the athletic department's internship program.
A former four-year member of the Yellow Jackets' golf team, Gehring holds two degrees from Defiance College and started his coaching career with DC while serving as a graduate assistant in the admissions office. After departing DC, he helped revive the golf program at Earlham from a 22-year hiatus and spent five seasons as the head coach of the Quakers' men's and women's programs.
