Yellow Jacket Men Capture Second Straight Tournament
WAUSEON, OHIO -- For the second event in a row, the Defiance College men's golf team came out as the winners with a first place finish at the annual Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament hosted by Defiance at Ironwood Golf Club in Wauseon, Ohio.
WAUSEON, OHIO -- For the second event in a row, the Defiance College men's golf team came out as the winners with a first place finish at the annual Jon P. Spiess Memorial Tournament hosted by Defiance at Ironwood Golf Club in Wauseon, Ohio.
The Yellow Jackets posted a team score of 292 strokes, finishing five strokes ahead of second-place Lourdes University who ended the 18-hole tournament with 297 total strokes. Heidelberg University rounded out the top-three teams at 299 strokes.
Individually, DC had four of the five team eligible scores in the 70's and all four players finished in the top-ten. The duo of seniors Jake Tinsley (Eaton) and Derek Lucas (Eaton) led the way at even par with a pair of 72's. Both players also finished in a tie for third overall. Junior Alex Miday (Canton/St. Thomas) was just behind Tinsley and Lucas with a round of 73 strokes to place in a tie for sixth.
Junoir Tyson Bostelman (Archbold) also shot in the 70's with a round of 75 strokes and was tied for eight overall amongst the field. Sophomore Drake Moening (Defiance) was fifth on the team at 85 strokes.
Also competing for DC as an individual, junior Adam McGinnis (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) also posted a sub-80 score with a tournament-total of 76 strokes.
Defiance is scheduled to host the Defiance Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance. The single-round tournament is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
