DC Football announces staff changes ahead of spring programming
DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College Football has welcomed back two assistants as new coordinators and elevated one other member of the coaching staff as the Yellow Jackets march towards their spring program.
Head Coach Bill Nickell has named Joseph Webb as the Yellow Jackets' Defensive Coordinator, and D'Gary Wallace will serve as the team's new Special Teams Coordinator while also mentoring linebackers and the co-coordinator on the defensive side. Additionally, Kyriq McDonald will serve as the new Wide Receiver Coach after spending his first season working with defensive backs.
Webb returns to Defiance after previously spending the 2022-23 seasons with the Yellow Jackets as the special teams coordinator and receivers coach. Webb, who was a teammate of Coach Nickell and also played under current DC offensive coordinator Dave Taynor at Urbana, after spending the last two years at Benjamin Logan High School in Bellefontaine. Webb's coaching experience stretches back to Urbana and Lock Haven University in addition to the high school level at Ridgemont.
Wallace is another former DC assistant back on the sidelines in Purple and Gold. Also an Urbana grad who got his start under Coach Taynor, Wallace has spent 10 years coaching college football. He was previously at Defiance for the 2022 season as the team's defensive coordinator and also aided the program as the assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator. He moved on to take the defensive play-calling duties at Capital the following season before taking a Division I opportunity with FCS Alcorn State.
McDonald takes over the wide receiver room at Defiance after one season assisting defensive backs. Armed with strong playing credentials at Alabama, Cincinnati and Missouri State with a rookie minicamp stint with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023, McDonald starting coaching as an assistant at the University of Findlay prior to one season as a graduate assistant at Alabama A&M. He joined the Defiance staff ahead of the 2025 campaign an an assistant defensive backs coach, which was his focus during his previous coaching stops and his playing career.
