Esports Rundown: Rocket League cruises to victory in NECC action
DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College Esport wrapped up another week of competition that included a season-opening win for the varsity Rocket League unit.
The trio of Asa Moledor, Blake Bowman and Cooper Sloan blanked Bradley's Black squad in three straight games and outscored them 9-0 across the series. Moledor led the group with four goals, Sloan made a team-best five saves and Bowman handed out four assists. The Rocket League team starts the NECC Spring slate at 1-0. DC's Gold team dropped a close match 3-2 to Washtenaw CC. Gabriel Bookman, Tayvien Halbisen and Daniel Aranovsky all posted three goals each. After winning the first two games, DC Gold fell in three straight to drop to 1-2 in NECC play.
In Valorant, the Yellow Jackets posted a win in the NECC on Monday over St. Bonaventure to advance to 1-2 in that conference. Auston Howland recorded a team-best 60 kills as DC swept the match 2-0. On Tuesday, DC lost a WHAC match to Cleary 2-0 to fall to 1-3 in the league. Daniel Aranovsky led the program with 22 kills in that match followed by 17 from Damien Martinez.
Closing the week on Friday, Defiance was defeated by Lawrence Tech 3-0 in Overwatch action. DC is now 0-4 to start the year in the WHAC Overwatch standings.
The week ahead includes NECC and WHAC matches in Valorant and Rocket League on Thursday night in addition to Tuesday night's Overwatch contest in the WHAC.
