Esports Rundown: Spring semester competition is underway
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Defiance College Esports team is back in action for the spring semester and has one week of competition completed for multiple games.
The Yellow Jackets are competing for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference crown in both Valorant and Overwatch 2 after Rocket League was played in the fall. DC is also competing in the National Esports Collegiate Conference for all three games this spring.
In WHAC competition last week, Defiance was defeated in both Valorant and Overwatch. The Yellow Jackets dropped a 3-0 decision to Saint Xavier in Overwatch on Tuesday night to start the season. On Friday, the Valorant team fell to nationally ranked Siena Heights 2-0. Auston Howland was the top scorer for Defiance with 15 kills followed by 10 by Daniel Aranovsky.
On the NECC front, Defiance went 2-1 for the week in the Valorant placement matches with wins over teams from Mississippi State and South Carolina along with a loss to North Alabama. Valorant's NECC regular season starts this week. In NECC Rocket League, the Jackets were 1-2 in placement match play with a win 3-1 win against Marietta. The Gold Rocket League Team was also 1-2 in placement play with a win against Carlow.
