Purple and Gold Rocket League teams finish runner-up, qualify for Nationals

DEFIANCE, Ohio - Defiance College eSports had two runner-up finishes in last week's NECC conference title matches in Rocket League.

The varsity Purple team was swept in their fall title defense by Cleveland State, 4 games to none. The Vikings outscored the Jackets 13-7 in goals across the best-of-seven set on May 5. The Gold group, dubbed the JV squad, fell to Ithaca in a series that went six games with Defiance losing, 4-2. DC and Ithaca were tied two games each and nine goals each after the first four sets before Ithaca outscored Defiance 7-1 over the next two contests to clinch the title.

Each group earned enough points to reach the NECC's national competition this summer. Details will come at a later time.
