DEFIANCE, OHIO - The Defiance College baseball team was rewarded for its success in the classroom receiving the American Baseball Coaches Association Team Excellence Award.
The award is given to programs coached by ABCA members that post a GPA over 3.0 for the entire 2018-19 academic year. This year more than 300 institutions ranging from high school to the collegiate level claimed the honor.
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2018-19 season ranked third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and made their first Tournament appearance since the 2013 season. The teams 23 wins is the second-most in school history, while also breaking into the record book for at-bats, RBI, innings pitched, putouts, fielding percentage, and hits.
Defiance saw nine student-athletes earn Tom Bohlsen Academic All-Conference, while eight claimed Chi Alpha Sigma Academic accolades.
The Purple and Gold join seven member schools from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference receiving the honor.
