Bio

Garett Mansfield has served as the Director of Athletic Communications at Defiance College since October 2022, bringing over a decade of sports media experience in communications and broadcasting in professional baseball and local sports to DC. He currently oversees the athletic department's digital presence through the athletics website and social media channels while also coordinating gameday statistics, operations, and live streaming. He also holds a seasonal role with Major League Baseball, supporting Minor League data operations through live stats entry and data tracking.

Prior to DC, Garett spent time in three different Minor League Baseball front offices with a role in broadcasting and communications. His journey started with the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A, San Diego Padres) as the team's Media Relations and Broadcast Assistant and experienced the franchise’s first Pacific Coast League championship in 2016. Next, Mansfield moved to Wisconsin and served as the Media Relations and Marketing Manager for the Beloit Snappers (Single-A, Oakland Athletics), and then landed in the Altoona Curve (Double-A, Pittsburgh Pirates) broadcast booth the following season. With the Curve, he was elevated to Director of Communications and Broadcasting after one year and worked with many current and former Pirates during three and a half years in Central Pennsylvania. During the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, Mansfield assisted the Pirates' media relations staff by coordinating remote media availability for players and field staff stationed at Altoona’s Peoples Natural Gas Field, which was Pittsburgh’s alternate training site that year. Before working in the minor leagues, Mansfield spent two seasons as a broadcaster and sports information director in the Alaska Baseball League with the Athletes in Action-sponsored Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks.

Mansfield stepped away from full-time baseball after seven years and moved home to Northwest Ohio. Between his return to the Buckeye State and starting at Defiance College, he was heard on Northwest Ohio airwaves as the voice of the Green Meadows Conference and Defiance High School athletics on 105.7 The Bull while also assisting with programming and promotions for iHeartMedia Defiance. He continues to get out and call local sporting events throughout the region with the West Ohio Sports Network (WTLW TV-44, Lima, Ohio) and MySports.Live at the three Paulding County high schools.

He completed his bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications at Bowling Green State University in 2015. While at BGSU, Mansfield was heavily involved in the student-run Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization that covered Falcon athletics on 88.1 WBGU-FM and WFAL Falcon Radio. He served as BGRSO’s Executive Director during his senior year and gained four years of experience in radio production, sports programming and board operation with both on-campus radio stations.

Mansfield is a Defiance native and graduated from Ayersville High School in 2011. He won two varsity letters in baseball and played basketball for the Pilots. Garett and his wife, Carlina, have two sons and reside south of Defiance. The Mansfields are members of Cable Road Alliance Church in Lima. Garett is also an ordained minister with the Christian & Missionary Alliance and volunteers as the Spiritual Life Coordinator on campus.
