DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College women's track and field team had several key performances as they wrapped up the home portion of their schedule with the Dick Small Invitational at the George M. Smart Center on Friday night.
Senior Hannah Williams (Swanton) highlighted the day for the Yellow Jackets, winning the weight throw by throwing a personal-best 14.44 meters (47 feet, 4.5 inches), improving her mark as the seventh-best in school history. Right behind her in second-place in the meet was sophomore Madi Bowman (Eaton), whose best toss was 13.32 meters (43 feet, 8.5 inches) to give Defiance a 1-2 finish.
The lone competitor in the shot put today for DC was senior Brooke Waidelich (Pettisville), who placed seventh in the event as she prepares to throw the weight on Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships.
Also coming out victorious on Friday was freshman Mackenzie Moehrman (Deshler/Patrick Henry), as her jump of 4.13 meters (13 feet, 6.75 inches) knocked off her lone competitor.
Freshman Meagan Trimpey brought home a pair of solid performances, first winning the women's high jump with a best jump of 1.42 meters (4 feet, 7.75 inches), and following that up with a third-place spot in the pole vault with a best of 2.90 meters (9 feet, 6.25 inches).
Senior Danielle Robbins (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) shined in her final performance at the Smart Center, as her prelim time of 8.42 seconds in the 60-meter dash was a personal-best, the second-best time in the field, and moved her into the sixth spot on DC's all-time performance list. Robbins went on to run 8.43 seconds in the final and placing second in the event. She followed that up with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash with at time of 28.21 seconds.
Senior Laura Lutzke also garnered a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash (31.10) to go along with her sixth-place mark in the 60-meter dash (8.90).
Freshman Olivia Fett (Defiance) also had a pair of excellent performances for DC. Her day began with the mile run, as she finished fifth with a time of 5:57.49, squeaking her way into the 10th spot on the all-time DC list. She followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run, running a time of 2:37.29.
DC also got a third-place finish out of freshman Kaitlyn Hughes (Van Wert/Crestview) in the 60-meter hurdles, as she ran a time of 11.20 seconds.
Team scores were not kept at the meet.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10, as several qualifying athletes will travel to Otterbein University to compete in the All-Ohio Championships. The meet is set to start at 12 p.m.
