Yellow Jackets Stumble Against Franklin, Falling 7-1

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College women's soccer team suffered a 7-1 loss this afternoon to Franklin College at the Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field, dropping them to 0-1 in conference action.

Defiance (1-8, 0-1 HCAC) was able to get off only four shots before Franklin (5-3, 1-0 HCAC) opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, taking a 1-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets in the first half. DC was held to just six shots in the first 45 minutes but was able to keep the Grizzlies to nine shots.

Franklin picked up the pace in the second half, however, coming hot out of the gate with two consecutive goals within the first five minutes of the second period to give them a 3-0 advantage.

At the 54:53 minute mark, the Yellow Jackets came to life as Taylor Deppert netted the first DC goal of the contest, easing the Grizzle advantage to 3-1. But it would be all Franklin the rest of the game, adding three more goals to seal the game 7-1.

Kat Wicher paced DC with four shots on goal while Whitney Webb, Kassie Memmer ad Taylor Deppert all added one shot on goal apiece. Madi Bowman made nine saves while allowing four goals in net for Defiance. Rachel Lowell relieved Bowman in the 80th minute, making three saves with three allowed goals.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, October 4 as they travel to Bluffton University for a 3:30 PM contest.
