DEFIANCE, OHIO - The rain may have pushed away many Defiance College spring sports on Saturday, but the DC men's tennis team kicked the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season off with a pair of contests. The Yellow Jackets welcomed Rose-Hulman and Transylvania to the George M. Smart Center, falling to each of the HCAC opponents 9-0.
Defiance started the busy saturday with an early morning battle with Rose-Hulman. In doubles action Jared Schnee (Bellevue / Bellevue) and Ethan Harris (Huntertown, Ind. / Carroll) were able to steal two games from their Fightin' Engineer opponents, falling 8-2.
Ring Lardner (Milford, Del. / Milford) picked up the highest game win total in singles results. The senior fell 6-1, 6-2 in the number three singles slot.
The Yellow Jackets returned to action with an afternoon battle with Transylvania. Both doubles pairs of Lardner and Schnee, and Harris and Micaiah Cox (Ft. Recovey / Ft. Recovery), fell 8-1 to begin the match.
In singles action Harris battled to a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. Schnee took three games in the first set before falling 6-3, 6-2. Seth Mangas wrapped up the singles battles with a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to his Fightin' Engineer opponent.
The Yellow Jackets will continue their stretch of home contests with HCAC foe Manchester on Tuesday, April 2. First serve is slated for 4:00 pm.
