WILMINGTON, OHIO - The Defiance College men's basketball team stumbled Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Wilmington, 85-57.
Defiance (2-3 overall) jumped to the early lead as senior Jonathan Ragland (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) connected from behind the arc to give the Purple and Gold the 6-3 advantage just two minutes into the contest. DC remained hot from deep as junior Noah Goodrich (Oregon/Genoa) delivered another dagger minutes later pushing the lead, 9-5. The Quakers caught fire using a 13-0 run to gain the 18-11 advantage. Wilmington never looked back stringing together another 5-0 run to close out the opening period en route to the 50-33 advantage.
The shooting woes continued for DC in mush of the second half as the Quakers swung the door wide open early using a 13-4 run over the opening six minutes to push the score, 63-37. The Purple and Gold looked to get something going late but the Wilmington defense continued to stifle the DC attack holding them just 24 second half points to capture the non-conference win.
Defiance finished the contest shooting 21-of-54 (38.9%) from the field and 3-of-16 (18.8%) from three-pointer, while pulling down 30 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, December 2 as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to take on Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Rose-Hulman. Tip is set for 3:00 p.m.
